Synesthesia is a neurological condition where one sense involuntarily triggers another. I have color-grapheme synesthesia, meaning every letter and number automatically has a color association in my mind. These pairings occur naturally, without memorization or choice. This condition coexists with my Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, depression, and anxiety, creating a unique interaction that heightens mental chaos and overstimulation.
MY BIRTHDAY IS GREEN, YELLOW, AND PURPLE
For my thesis, I created a piece that visualizes my color-grapheme synesthesia while expressing the intrusive, overwhelming nature of OCD. Despite the hindrances of having both OCD and synesthesia, they have always shaped my perception and lived experience in a way I would never give up.
Every animation began as a carefully crafted hand-drawn illustration. Once completed, I refined each drawing in Illustrator, creating vector files with layered elements for animation. These vector files were then imported into After Effects, where I brought them to life through movement, transitions, and subtle details. Finally, the completed animations were arranged into a cohesive grid format in Premiere. And then, one magical morning, the finished piece was installed in the gallery, illuminating the space with its motion, energy, and rhythmic flow. Follow the link below to view the full video.

Each video started as a hand drawn color study
Moved into Illustrator to be vectorized
Then moved into AfterEffects to be synced with audio
All videos then moved into Premiere to create grid
Lastly, installed in ICA gallery with headphones for interactive experience
