HUNGRY MOTHER
This branding project began when a Chattanooga-based coffee shop, fresh on the scene, approached me with the name “Mother” and a vision: to create a warm, handmade identity that reflected their made-from-scratch bagels, fermented vegetables, and locally roasted coffee. The early stages of the project focused on naming, voice, and logo concepts, with many iterations rooted in a sense of effervescent nostalgia.
As the project evolved, the brand shifted to “Hungry Mother”. We developed a custom primary logo based on the Bufalino font, rebuilt from scratch in Adobe Illustrator to ensure precise spacing and visual rhythm. A secondary logo, adapted from the font Recoleta, retained elements from the original Mother wordmark, including a hand-drawn swirl added to the “h” as a nod to the project’s beginnings.
The final identity includes a primary and secondary logo, a brand mark, color system, and a set
of fermentation-inspired illustrations. A detailed branding guide outlines usage, construction, and
proportions—ensuring consistency while leaving room for warmth and flexibility across applications.
